Crab hunting

You can always find some wildlife on the beach, take buckets and spades and go rock pooling while the tide is out. There are some great places to rock pool at Alnmouth beach and Sugar Sands DO be very careful and make sure you are aware of tide times and how fast moving the tide is.

Honey to the bee!

Discover a tale of bees, learn all about their bee-haviour and enjoy watching the observation hive in the visitor centre at the Chain Bridge Honey Farm. Their visitor centre is free and in season there is a café bus for lunches, cakes and coffees.

Meet puffins on the Farne Islands

Great news, after two years of having to remain closed due to avian flu, the Farne Islands are once again open! Boat trips will be landing on Inner Farne from 25th March. Grab your waterproof coat, because even if it doesn’t rain you can embrace the sea spray as you head out to the see some of the 43,000 pairs of puffins that call these rocky outcrops home. Enjoy their clown like features as they waddle in and out of their burrows.

Hauxley Nature reserve

is one of the best wildlife watching spots in Northumberland. Pack a picnic and take your binoculars, situated right next to the beach at Druridge Bay it offers fantastic views. Huddle down in a hyde or go for a walk to enjoy a coffee at the café. You can while away a day here that’s for sure.
