Find our what our newest team member Ruby thought of her very first trip to Northumberland as she shares her trip with everyone, along with her favourite places to eat.
“What’s better after a chilly walk on the beach than coming back to a cosy cottage with a fire!?
When we arrived at Tern Cottage, we were greeted with lovely decor in a cosy environment.
I was someone who had never visited Northumberland before, admittedly it had never been on my list, but I’ll definitely be coming back! As two couples under the age of 30, I was delighted at how much I enjoyed my time away. After a 3-hour journey up there on a cold late Friday evening, our first point of call was to order a Pizza, get the fire on, feet up and enjoy a glasswine whilst watching a film. Immediately, we could feel the cozy vibes in the cottage with the warm orange glow of the fire. That was pretty much me done for the night.”

“On our first full day we set our sights Bamburgh Castle. As someone who has never really had much interest in Castles and mediaeval history, I was stunned at how much I enjoyed walking around the grounds, rooms and reading all about the history of the castle and the restorations of Lord Armstrong.
My absolute favourite part of the castle was the armoury room which contained so many weapons and armour used throughout history- I can’t get over how they carried them all into battle!
There were stunning views from the top of Bamburgh Castle where you could see the beach in all it’s glory. After the castle tour, we decided to take a walk into Bamburgh for lunch. One thing I loved about Northumberland is how inclusive it is for dogs! You can see plenty of dogs living their best lives on the beach, chasing sticks into the sea. A lot of pubs and restaurants are dog friendly too. As a dog lover this makes me feel incredibly wholesome. I can’t wait to go back to Northumberland and take my pooch next time!”

“On the way back to the car park, I spotted some highland cows from a distance and of course had to go and have a closer look. Highland cows are so beautiful and as my first encounter, I was amazed at how large they are… they do look so cute and fluffy though, this one posed especially for a picture!
As a foodie, food offerings are an integral part of a trip when I visit places. I must say, the food was delicious in Northumberland. My top recommendations would be;
The Castle Inn – Bamburgh
Indian Brassiere – Seahouses
Black Swan Inn– Seahouses
My favourite was definitely the Black Swan Inn. The decor and vibe there is modern yet warm and the food was absolutely unreal!
The next day we visited the lovely market town of Alnwick with its cute cobbled streets. I have since learnt that my Auntie used to live here. The idea was to visit Alnwick Castle where the famous broomstick lesson from Harry Potter were filmed, however, I forgot to check the opening times and soon discovered that it isn’t open until March, all the more reason to go back again! Nevertheless, it was quiet enough for a quick photo op!
I loved my time in Northumberland and would love to go back in the summer months to take up some of the beach activities! Whilst January may be a chilly time to visit, the log fire at the cottage really does make the cottage an all year round location.”
